So, here I am going to discuss how you can be a Journalist without a degree.
· Go local or get online: Take up a job at the local paper or any sort of work that requires reporting and documentation. Journalists usually find themselves spending a major chunk of time making reports and writing features.
· Establish connections: Networking is key and a career choice like this relies on a strong professional network. Address books will really help you here. To begin with, reach out to people you have heard of and whose work you admire. Understand how the industry works and pick up whatever you can.
· Experience helps: Intern with any newspaper, magazine or media company. You will get sufficient exposure in the field while understanding what a journalist’s day-to-day life is like. Fact-checking, collaborating on story ideas and editing are some of the areas where you will be working.
· Get your basics right: Sharpen your writing and communication skills. Read a lot and keep an eye for detail. Experiment with different writing styles. Remember, the more you practice, the better you get. Get your work evaluated. Make mistakes, learn from them and grow.
· Stay with the trends: This goes without saying if you are an ardent reader. Catch up with the current affairs. If you are specializing in a particular subject, stay up-to-date with its latest news.
